Motorola Moto G India Release could shake competitors like Micromax (Canvas HD), Samsung (Grand Quattro)

While Samsung is reigning Indian market with its entry, medium, high-end android smartphones, and Micromax is trying to lure customers via its budget-targeted offering, enters Motorola, not with ambitious plan, but with its new Motorola Moto G, a dual sim android smartphone with quad-core power specifications and pocket-friendly price. The immediate competing device to Moto G is Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro and Micromax Canvas HD. motorola-moto-g-colors

In fact, Moto G is better in terms of specifications compared to Grand Quattro. Comparing Moto G to Canvas HD, it excels or parallels in most of the department except in camera. It has Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 4.5-inches HD display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, water-resistant coating on the inside as well as outside, Android 4.3 (soon to be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat), 5mp rear camera and 1.3mp front camera, 2070mAh battery. The specifications seems pretty impressive at the price point at which it is to be released. Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro has Snapdragon 200 chipset (inferior than SD 400), wvga display (lower than 720p display of Moto G), no GG3 screen protection nor water-resistance. MMX Canvas HD does have relatively similar specs to Motorola Moto G but Moto G has better brand value, build quality, reliability.

Motorola executives have already confirmed that Moto G dual sim variant will be launched in India in January, 2014. Although the price is not confirmed for India, but speculating from its international price of $179 for 8GB model and $199 for 16GB model, we can say that it will cost around Rs.10-14,000 in India. This puts Moto G in much more favorable position of choice compared to the other two handsets mentioned here as from specifications viewpoint, it is more valuable than Galaxy Grand Quattro, and from brand plus overall consideration, it definitely seems to be better choice than Micromax Canvas HD as well.

The announcement of Moto G launch in India is really surprising given the earlier report of Motorola exiting Indian market (and several other Asian markets) to concentrate mainly on other major markets.

  1. I think Micromax is a worthy competitor for Moto G here if we look at the specs. MediaTech has been the majorly used brand for processors by Micromax and so far doing good in India. So it can handle Qualcom brand. Same can be said about the graphic card, with same power as in Moto G but different brand. I think it will be unfair to call A116 a “budget phone” while it’s giving superior quality than others. And who said “Brand Value ” ? Motorola is already a “no” name in market, as long as Google has really put something worthy of buyers attention. Sure brand is one thing, but so are specs. Personally I liked G but I’d say A116 is a stiff competitor.
