Micromax Canvas Viva A72 another 5inch Android based smartphone that popped out yesterday, is now available on online e-stores like Infibeam and Snapdeal for Rs. 6,999/- INR. It is surprising that A72 Viva is not yet officially launched by Micromax. It seems Micromax is now trying to spread its domination over the low priced entry level Android handsets segment with large 5 inch display.
Canvas Viva A72 has a 5-inch WVGA capacitive touch screen display which produces resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. A72 is powered by a 1 GHz Single Core processor and runs on age old Android v2.3.6 Gingerbread OS. This low range device packs with only 256MB of RAM and has 512MB of internal storage that can be expandable by up to 32GB via external microSD card. Out of the total 512MB internal storage space only 110MB is accessible by the user which is also not impressive. It comes with dual-SIM 2G (EDGE) support but alas none of these two slots have 3G connectivity. A72 sports a 3 Megapixel rear camera that features 4x zoom, multi shot and night mode, and also has a 0.3-Megapixel front shooter. The rear primary camera is capable of video recording. It supports 3gp video formats having resolution of 1280 × 720/640 × 480/ 480 × 320/176 × 144. It has other connectivity options which include EDGE, Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi hot-spot, Bluetooth v3.0 and microUSB v2.0. A72 comes with Motion sensor and FM radio with recording facility in AMR format. This smartphone has 2000mAh Li-ion battery under its hood which is capable of providing 280 hrs. of standby time and up to 7 hrs. of talk time.
This time after carefully reading all the specification, we are very disappointed as the new Canvas A72 Viva does not possess anything whelming that the other Canvas series phones had offered to the buyers. The specification are of below standards and most importantly launching a new device after a smash hit introduction of its previous Canvas HD A116, with an ancient Android v2.3.6 Gingerbread OS and stuffing only 256MB of RAM along with 512MB of internal storage these days is not acceptable at all. Consumers have now a days many other options available in the market at this price with latest Android version and higher RAM and internal storage.
Micromax had already revealed the Canvas A100 and its successor Canvas 2 A110 last year with a 5-inch display. The A116 Canvas HD is the Company’s latest flagship that was launched in February, this year and turned to be a massive hit with a 5 inch 720p HD display. Do you think Micromax has achieved position similar to that of Samsung where it could overprice handsets like Viva A72 and still expect good sales?
