Karbonn has lunched three entry level android smartphones in the Rs.5000 price segment solidifying the cheap-budget phone market. Karbonn has named these phones by its usual nomenclature- A3, A4, and A6. All these are dual-sim android powered smartphones, but lacking 3G network connectivity. They do support GPRS/EDGE mobile net feature.
Karbonn A3 houses a 3.5-inch HVGA display (320*480 pixels screen resolution). The touchscreen is of capacitive type. A 1Ghz processor powers the device under the hood and a mere 256MB RAM is also provided. Seriously, what can anybody do with a 256MB RAM ? The 256MB RAM would hardly support multitasking of 2-3 applications, but we can’t complain much given the cheaper prices. 155MB internal storage is provided with the option to expand it via a microSD card upto 32GB. It comes with a 3 megapixel camera on the rear and a VGA front camera as well. The device runs the older Android 2.3.6 gingerbread operating system. Karbonn A3 price is set at Rs. 3600.
Karbonn A4 on the other hand, sports a 4-inch HVGA display and is powered by the same 1Ghz processor and 256MB RAM under the hood. Even the internal storage is little less at 104mb in comparison to that of A3 (155mb). There’s a 3.2 MP camera on the rear and a VGA camera on the front. So the A4 is priced much higher (about Rs.1400 more than the price of A3) only for its 4-inch display (0.5-inch display size difference). I would say, both phones lack features and aren’t a big bet for their price. In addition to this, they also have a host of other features like 802.11 Wifi, Bluetooth and microUSB. Both phones have a 1400mAH battery under the backplate. The battery is estimated to last more than day due to its less powerful hardware and smaller display.Karbonn A4 price is set at Rs.4,990.
Karbonn A6 has 4-inch WVGA IPS display (480*800 display resolution). It also comes with 1GHz processor, but 512mb RAM accompanies that chipset. Although, here again, the internal memory is limited to just 104mb, and there is option for adding micro-sd card of upto 32GB. The camera is different here with 5-megapixel and led flash support. There is front facing vga camera also. WiFi, bluetooth, microUSB connecitivity as usual. It comes with 1450mAh battery. A6 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. So, for the increased screen size, resolution, camera and RAM, Karbonn A6 costs Rs. 5390.

Budget phone manufacturers always have their market in India though the big players like Samsung, HTC, Sony and Apple have a bigger share in pie in overall phone market. You can buy Karbonn A3, A4, A6 online at Flipkart, Snapdeal or other retailers. Karbonn A3 and A6 seems to be more justified than A4. We think that A4 should not be launched at all. There is negligible difference between specification of A3 and A4, yet there is considerably high price difference, which doesn’t make sense and so A3 seems to be reasonable choice out of two. Moreover, there are good and remarkable differences between A4 and A6, yet the price difference is so less that A6 seems to be worthy choice out of two. One noticeable drawback in all the three Karbonn mobiles is lack of 3G network connectivity.
