Unveiling the cover from long-rumored upcoming phone from Sony, the company has finally announced the launch of Sony Xperia L smartphone in the mid-range android phones category. Although, it was rumored long earlier that Sony will be focusing just on high-end phones segment, but the launch of these new phones duly overthrows those rumors and that Sony is long on capturing all market segment. Xperia L has 4.3-inch screen with wvga resolution (854*480 pixels). It features dual core 1GHz Snapdragon processor along with 1GB of RAM, which is sufficient horsepower for phones of mid-level category. It has 8GB of internal storage as well, although about 5GB out of 8GB is available to end-users. On the software side, it is running on Jelly Bean Android 4.1 out of box. Apart from 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity, it also has NFC so that you could just tap your device with NFC-compatible accessories and connect your wishes. Another interesting feature of Sony Xperia L is its 8mp camera, which is Sony’s latest mobile Exmor RS sensor. This camera module also offers HDR mode for stills as well as video-shooting, but it doesn’t support Full HD 1080p video recording unfortunately. Video-recording resolution is limited to 720p only. There is secondary camera at the front face of the phone as well, although it is just a vga camera. One unique feature of Sony Xperia L is its peculiar LED notification light at the bottom which produces matching colors to the image that is being displayed on the screen aside from its usual LED notification feature.

Sony Xperia L release date is set for q2, 2013 i.e. the phone will start selling from mid-April, this year, though, its availability will vary depending upon markets. Sony Xperia L price is not announced, but as per some sources, Xperia L price will be about €299 (about $387 USD ) in Germany. In Netherlands, price of Xperia L is rumored to be about €279 (about $362) i.e. cheaper than the price in Germany. So, expect similar pricing in other countries in Europe. Based on this price estimate, Sony Xperia L price in India will be about Rs.21,000 (not confirmed, our guess based on conversion of currencies). It’ll be available in White, Red and Black colors.

Now, whenever I hear the word ‘mid-range smartphones’ at these times, the first phone that comes to my mind is Samsung Galaxy S2. Although it is old phone, yet it beats many new phones launched in market and the list includes Sony Xperia L. In terms of specification, Galaxy S2 wins over Xperia L, but don’t worry, Sony has launched another mid-high range handset i.e. Sony Xperia SP which appears more powerful than SGS 2 as per specs. Compared with Galaxy S Advance, Xperia L has higher edge. However, taking the expected price of Xperia L in consideration, Galaxy S Advance may be better choice for consumers as SGSA is available at about Rs.15000-16000 in India.
