Yesterday, iBall has come up with their new Edu-Slide i-1017 tablet Dual Core powered Android tablet designed specially for the students. It comes with pre-installed educational software contents by ‘eTeach’ that includes of educational stuffs for the students of both CBSE and SSC (Maharastra) in English from Std. I to XII. The tablet also offers Marathi medium contents of SSC students from standards V to X. It is now interesting to see that after Lava and Micromax; iBall has also rooted towards educational tablet.
iBall i-1017 has a 10.1 inch Capacitive Multi-touch IPS display with resolution of 1280 x 800, promising nice color reproduction and image quality. This tablet comes with Android operating system v4.1 Jelly Bean straight out of the box with a powerful Cortex A9 Dual Core processor clocked @ 1.5GHz and 1GB of RAM along with Mali G400 GPU. i-1017 comes equipped with on-board 8GB of Internal Memory which can be expanded up to 32GB with External microSD memory card. This device also houses a 2 Megapixel rear camera and a front VGA camera for video chat.
At the launch, one of iBall representatives conveyed that they are entering this segment of making educational tablet to complement the nation’s education system as day by day in this segment, users are increasing but quality product with good educational materials is not offered. By revealing i-1017 Edu-Slide, it is their endeavor to create an environment by optimum utilization of technology where learning will be easy & interesting.
Launched at the price of INR 12,999/-, iBall Edu-slide i-1017 will compete with other 10 inch tablets available in the market such as Spice Stellar Pad Mi-1010 and Videocon VT 10. It is noticeable, that “Aakash” tablet was developed and sold at a subsidized cost to serve the purpose of connecting the nation’s 25,000 colleges & 400 universities to e-learning program by the Indian Government. Micromax also gave a try to do the same by their ‘Funbook’ tablet series, but at low price offering quality products & educational contents at the same time – is very hard task.

However, customers can buy this tablet at the price of INR 12,999/- with only one standard course material for free. As an introductory offer, if you buy this tablet before 15th of April 2013 then will be eligible to download an additional standard content. Well, at the price at which iBall Edu Slide tabet is launched, it doesn’t offer something really unique apart from free educational content offer. The specs are of mediocre level and the price seems little high. We all know that CBSE textbook materials are officially available for free online, so marketing their latest offering as educational material may invite eyes of parents, but the specifications and no sim-card slot for inbuilt network connectivity make this tablet not a much-worthy buy.
