HP ElitePad 900 Windows 8 Tablet Specification, Features, Price

Slew of windows 8 tablets are surfacing in news these days with general availability, still a few months to fetch. Along the line is announced HP ElitePad 900. Taking the aid of reputation from Elite series of notebooks, HP has duly branded new line of Elite tablets(Don’t worry, we’ll get envy and other series in this segment also if windows 8 based tablets really catch on {I hope they do!}). Going by design, that’s more on the premium side with aluminum back cover and tough, rugged body with military level endurance. HP ElitePad 900 is not the thinnest tablet but achieves remarkable thinness of 9.2 mm and weight of about 1.5 pound (680 gram) (Even Microsoft Surface RT tablet has almost similar thickness(9.3mm) and weight{676gm}). Hanging over military’s MIL-spec 810G durability requirements, this tablet can be bear unfortunate cases of drops, temperature extremes and high altitudes — take this on your adventurous tours.

HP ElitePad 900 Tablet Specification

If its design adds extra mile to its score, its technical specification makes no compromise. On the performance side, it packs the lately launched Intel Atom processor probably Z2760 about which we’ve talked earlier (most tablets on this chip will boast of similar hardware configuration, so check out the link to find details about the processor), which promises better battery life and full x86 traditional desktop compatibility, that means HP ElitePad 900 is not windows RT tablet, rather full Windows 8 tablet designed for power users without compromising portability. HP touts of its make to meet demands of business users, IT users. It has RAM of 2 GB. For storing your files and useful data, it has option for either 32GB or 64GB SSD. External memory card is also supported, not to forget NFC, Bluetooth, and sim slot for 3G/4G network connectivity.

Without richer and eye-appealing vivid display, no tablets can win consumer’s heart. HP ElitePad 900 has screen resolution of 1280*800 on a 10 inch IPS display protected by Gorilla Glass. Going by screen resolution, that’s less and not great for users like me who prefer densely packed pixels making higher resolution. It doesn’t meet our expectation, or say demand as small smartphones sports such a similar resolution these days. It offers 16:10 aspect ration and wide viewing angles. 8 megapixel rear camera and front camera supporting 1080p video shooting for HD video-chatting experience.

HP ElitePad 900 Tablet Convertible Hybrid

With all the main features detailed above, do we expect this to be the so-called tablet convertible? Indeed, there are accessories called HP ElitePad smart jackets which are not mere casings for additional protection from wear and tear, but also add a bunch of useful ports like usb, HDMI, SD card reader, and keyboard. The smart jacket also has compartment for optional; ultra thin elitepad jacket battery which could add upto 8 hours of extended battery life to support you with extra juice when visiting remote, distant places with no sockets available to warm up your device. And did I mention that HP ElitePad 900 allows you to doodle your way using HP Executive Tablet pen (giving you making notes in your own handwriting capabilities). HP ElitePad Docking Station gives you the power to use your tablet like a secondary monitor or a desktop computer while charging the device at the same time. With all these accessories, we get a feel of all-rounders kind of tablet but without actual hands-on, one can’t infer the actual take and course of feedback.

On the software side, HP has taken due care and note of needs of business users and therefore provided bunch of softwares, utilities and tools to make the offering standout as most of the windows 8 tablets lined up for launch this year or the next will match the hardware specs in close vicinity. HP PageLift application is there to virtually scan important papers, whiteboard, or other physical documents. Cyberlink Media Suite for those who do video and audio editing.
